BELGRADE, OCTOBER 15 /SRNA/ – Serbia's caretaker government has declared 2027 the Year of Saint Despot Stefan Lazarević.
The decision was made to mark the 650th anniversary of his birth and the 600th anniversary of the death of the Serbian ruler, the Serbian Government's press service said.
The aim is to preserve the memory of Despot Stefan's contribution to Serbian statehood, culture and spiritual identity.
Relevant ministries will take part in marking the anniversaries through projects in their respective areas of responsibility.
Despot Stefan Lazarević, also known as Stevan Visoki, was born in 1377 and died in 1427.
He was the son of Prince Lazar and ruled Serbia first as an Ottoman vassal with the title of prince, and later as a Hungarian and Ottoman vassal with the title of despot.
