PLANS UNDER WAY TO ORGANIZE TRANSPORT TO RURAL AREAS

DRVAR, JANUARY 14 /SRNA/ – The Municipality of Drvar plans to organize local transportation so that residents of remote villages can have access to transport at least once a week in order to meet their basic needs, Mayor Dušica Runić told SRNA.

Runić said that there are no regular bus lines between returnee municipalities, and that local public transport in Drvar is also not organized, except for transportation of primary school pupils, which is financed by the municipal administration.

"The municipality plans to try to organize local transport so that residents of remote villages would have secured transportation at least once a week, enabling them to meet their basic needs, primarily related to healthcare and the purchase of basic food supplies," Runić explained.

She recalled that in the first years following return, mobile shops existed which enabled regular supply to residents of remote villages, but that this form of support no longer exists, further complicating the daily lives of returnees.

When it comes to bus routes to Republika Srpska and Serbia, Runić explained that bus lines between Drvar and Banja Luka exist solely thanks to independent carriers operating on the brink of survival, while there are no regular routes to Serbia.

"The Municipality of Drvar does not have the financial capacity to subsidize this type of economic activity, which is why it is not possible to ensure regular and sustainable bus transport," Runić said.
