ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, SEPTEMBER 2 /SRNA/ - Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal attack on a Serbian returnee and his son in the Sarajevo settlement of Vogošća.

"It is horrific and devastating that a 92-year-old man, one of the last Serbian returnees in that area, was savagely beaten in his own home, while shots were fired at his son as he tried to protect his father," Košarac pointed out to SRNA.

He stated that this is a crime that must receive a clear and unequivocal response from the institutions.

"What is particularly concerning is that the issue of the safety of Serbian returnees in the FBiH is being reopened. Serbs have the right to live freely, with dignity, and without fear in their own homes, and every attack bearing the hallmarks of ethnic hatred must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted as such," said Košarac.

Unfortunately, he says, this is yet another in a series of examples of how the politics of the FBiH treats Serbs and what it thinks of them.

"Only Srpska is safe for Serbs in BiH," Košarac noted.

He urged the competent police and judicial authorities to urgently resolve this case, identify the perpetrators and their motives, and punish them most severely.

"Silence and the relativization of such attacks only encourage new violence," Košarac concluded.
