PALE, MARCH 24 /SRNA/ - With a special program in which 16 students recited poetry in eight languages, reading verses from great world poets and bringing this art form closer to a wider audience through their talent and interpretation, the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of East Sarajevo celebrated World Poetry Day this evening.
The higher assistant at the Department of Sinology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pale, Dorotea Klačar, told reporters that in the diverse program, in addition to students, three professors participated, and that departments that are not language-related also got involved.
She added that the students recited verses in Serbian, English, German, Russian, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Greek, and that the audience was able to hear the students' original verses.
"It's surprising how much students enjoy writing in a foreign language." "Tonight we tried to utilize art, words, to connect art with culture and poetry, so that those who do not speak these languages can still understand through emotion what we are talking about," Klačar said.
Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy Ognjen Kandić pointed out that this higher education institution has recently been infused with poetry, that writers are increasingly frequent guests, and that World Poetry Day was celebrated like never before in the history of the faculty.
Kandić stated that they had a large number of participants in a rich program, that they broke some prejudices, stepped out of the mold, and made an effort to be unconventional, which paid off, as the amphitheater was full.
Stefan Ostojić, a second-year student at the Faculty of Philosophy majoring in Chinese and English, spoke in Spanish and introduced the audience to the famous writer Federico García Lorca.
He emphasized the importance of celebrating World Poetry Day and noted that poetry is an emotion felt in all languages, and that even someone who does not speak Spanish could feel the love in the words.
UNESCO declared March 21 as World Poetry Day in Paris in 1999.
