Emir Kusturica is a Serbian film director, screenwriter, actor, film producer and musician.

BELGRADE, MARCH 13 /SRNA/ - Director and writer Emir Kusturica is the recipient of the 33rd "Todor Manojlović" Foundation Award, the jury announced.

In the justification for the award, it is stated that in Kusturica's books: "Kad mrtve duše marširaju"/When Dead Souls March/ and "Vidiš li da ne vidim?" /Do You See That I Do Not See?/, the central theme is "the fate of the artist in the experience of the modern world and the diabolical reality that sometimes emerges in terrifying outlines."

"Kusturica's architecture may seemingly be viewed as a traditional type of conservatism. However, an insight into the contents and programs broadcast from these two focal cultural centers clearly detects a modernist sensibility and a potent artistic impulse," the award justification reads.

It is also assessed that "Kusturica's Mećavnik and Andrićgrad pulsate with the frequency of a special sensibility, questioning and appropriating modern artistic trends from the world."

The "Todor Manojlović" Foundation has been working since June 21, 1991, on collecting literary legacies, studying, publishing, popularizing works, and preserving the name of the poet, playwright, essayist, literary and art critic, and translator Todor Manojlović, born in Zrenjanin.

Among the previous award recipients are Miodrag Pavlović, Milorad Pavić, Dušan Kovačević, Marina Abramović, Momo Kapor, Vida Ognjenović, Muharem Pervić, Želimir Žilnik, Slobodan Tišma, David Albahari, Radivoj Šajtinac, Isidora Žebeljan, Vladimir Pištalo, Svetislav Basara, and Franja Petrinović.
