SARAJEVO, APRIL 15 /SRNA/ - Politicians in BiH will make decisions the moment they are respected by the international community and when it stops interfering in affairs in BiH, MP of the Serb People Caucus in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Milan Petković told SRNA.
Commenting on the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas’ statement that international interventionism in BiH could be gradually abolished if local leaders prove they can make decisions on their own, Petković says there are democratic elections in BiH, which is also confirmed by representatives of international organisations.
"If you have elected representatives, then internationals cannot come to dismiss them, punish them and impose sanctions, but should respect them instead, because in this way they respect the citizens who elected them," Petković emphasized.
He said that the European path can continue, but without foreign interference and their interference in the affairs in BiH.
"If we cannot reach an agreement 30 years after the Dayton, then we must either go different ways or start functioning together," said Petković.
He has added that this situation resembles one in which a 30-year-old child still lives under the protection of parents.
"People at that age are expected to start their own families and start making decisions independently. I think that enough time has been given for the country to decide independently," emphasized Petković.
He emphasized that a single statement by any European official will not change the policy towards BiH.
Petković pointed out that the EU institutions must be aware of the specificities of BiH and be more reasonable and tolerant in continuing negotiations, because everyone's goal is for BiH to become EU member state.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that international interventionism in BiH could be gradually abolished if local leaders demonstrate that they can make decisions for themselves.
