POLITICAL CRISIS IN BiH BEING RESOLVED THROUGH POLITICAL MEANS

BANJA LUKA, MARCH 27 /SRNA/ - The security situation in BiH is complex and turbulent, and this state represents a political crisis that will be resolved through political means, it was said in Banja Luka at today's international scientific conference on contemporary security challenges and threats, attended by professors from Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Russia.

The Dean of the Faculty of Security Sciences at the University of Banja Luka Predrag Ćeranić emphasized that BiH has previously found ways out of similar crises and assessed that the situation in Serbia is concerning.

"If the original Dayton Agreement, which ensures equality for the constituent peoples, is respected, a solution will be easily reached. Especially if the legitimate representatives of these peoples in BiH engage in dialogue on an equal basis and with mutual respect, a resolution will certainly be found," Ćeranić told reporters in Banja Luka.

He believes that the political crisis will be resolved and that BiH has no future if certain individuals rely on the support of some international actors.

According to him, Republika Srpska is more exposed to terrorist threats.

Ćeranić says that there is a global divide, as newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are holding bilateral talks on resolving the Ukraine crisis. Meanwhile, on the other hand, European leaders, particularly those from France and Britain, are forming a coalition with a completely different perspective on the situation in Ukraine.

Marija Đorić from the Institute of Political Studies in Belgrade assessed that the security situation in BiH, Serbia, and the wider region is reaching a boiling point.

"I think our nations should learn to be a bit wiser, to understand that some wars are not ours, and that it is time for peace," Đorić emphasized.

She explained that her research focuses on possible links between martial arts clubs and extremism.

Đorić pointed out that in BiH, there is a possibility of religious groups connecting with martial arts clubs, which could pose a potential security risk in the future.

"These groups are primarily associated with the Federation of BiH, but we are focused on the entire territory," Đorić stated.

Scientific associate at the Institute for Serbian Culture in Priština, Ratomir Antonović, said that Republika Srpska is a thorn in the side of powerful nations and forces that, by any means possible, are trying to destroy it through various attacks and pressures.

"This is an attack we are enduring, both here and in Kosovo, for one reason only – because we belong to the Serbian nation and are clearly targets of those who do not want Serbhood to be preserved, especially here in BiH," Antonović said.

He noted that the situation in Kosovo and Metohija is similar and that it is difficult to be a Serb and survive there.

"We are fighting at all costs and doing everything we can to survive," Antonović said.

Professor at the Faculty of Security Sciences in Banja Luka Saša Mićin assessed that the current situation in BiH is heading in a political direction and that there is no possibility of larger-scale confrontations.

"Individual cases that are possible in these areas may occur, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska certainly has the capacity, knowledge, and resources to prevent and avert such things," Mićin said.

A total of 55 papers were submitted for the international conference, including ten from Hungary, nine from Serbia, two from Bulgaria, and one from Russia. The conference is being held in two formats – in-person participation and online.

In-person participation will include professors from Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Russia.

The scientific conference "Contemporary Challenges and Security Threats" is organized by the Faculty of Security Sciences.
