NO INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONVICTED WAR CRIMINAL AND THERE IS NO WILL

SARAJEVO, MARCH 26 /SRNA/ - The Ministry of Justice in the Council of Ministers has no information about the convicted war criminal Sakib Mahmuljin, who has been avoiding an eight-year prison sentence for more than two years, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković did not ask his Turkish colleague if a war criminal is hiding in Turkey.

The Ministry of Justice told SRNA that there is no new information about Mahmuljin, and that the Ministry is only the central liaison body in the procedures for providing international legal assistance.

"All actions, in accordance with the Law on International Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, are undertaken exclusively at the request of judicial authorities in BiH, by no means independently," the Ministry stated.

In an open letter to Konaković, Serbian ambassadors and BiH consuls general recently warned of the fact that he did not asked the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan whether the war criminal Mahmuljin, who was sentenced in BiH and is on the international wanted list, is hiding in their country.

"You see, that convicted commander of the Third Corps of the so-called Army of BiH is most likely hiding in Turkey today, but you did not raise that issue in the conversation with your Turkish colleague, which clearly shows your position," the Serbian ambassadors and consuls general said in the letter.

They said that they will do their best to convey the impression to the EU and its members that perhaps Konaković does not stand for European values as he declaratively claims and that he has no problem with the escape of convicted war criminals.

Mahmuljin is a convicted war criminal because he did not prevent the murders and inhumane treatment of prisoners of war, medical personnel and civilians even though he knew or had reason to know that members of the "El Mujahidin" Detachment subordinate to him were preparing to commit criminal acts.

After his escape, Interpol issued a red warrant for Mahmuljin on November 29, 2022, since he did not receive the referral document for serving the prison sentence on November 23.
