EAST SARAJEVO, JUNE 25 /SRNA/ – Serb delegate in the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and member of the Committee on Foreign and Trade Policy, Customs, Transport and Communications Radovan Kovačević sharply condemned and rejected what he called dangerous and shameful accusations by Sarajevo-based media and politicians regarding the voting at today’s session of the Committee.

"The Committee, on several occasions, and the House of Peoples once, adopted a conclusion and informed the Council of Ministers that it finds it unacceptable to amend the Law on Road Traffic Safety in BiH article by article on a practically monthly basis. Instead, it is necessary to undertake a systemic reform of the law that would encompass all necessary amendments,.

By the way, I emphasized that in this particular case, the line ministry of Republika Srpska expressed opposition, and I regret that opposition colleagues chose to ignore that fact—although, we are used to the fact that, unfortunately, they are not interested in the positions of Republika Srpska", Kovačević stressed in a statement to SRNA.

He stressed that it is unacceptable for the Federation’s problems to continuously be presented as BiH-wide problems.

"Aggressive driving is already regulated in Republika Srpska, in accordance with constitutional competences, by the Law on Road Traffic Safety of Republika Srpska. So, if Sarajevo politicians are really interested in solving the problem rather than engaging in populism, then let them solve the problem in their own backyard, and leave us in peace," Kovačević said.

The Committee on Foreign and Trade Policy, Customs, Transport and Communications of the House of Peoples did not support the principles of the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Road Traffic Safety in BiH.

After the session, some Sarajevo-based media and politicians claimed, without grounds, that SNSD and HDZ were "protecting killers on the roads" and voted against a law intended to more strictly penalize reckless drivers.
