GOGANOVIĆ AFTER MEETING WITH HOYER IN WASHINGTON: DECISIONS SHOULD BE MADE BY DOMESTIC ACTORS

WASHINGTON, APRIL 16 /SRNA/ – Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers Aleksandar Goganović met in Washington with one of the Democratic leaders in Congress, Steny Hoyer.

Following the meeting, Goganović told SRNA that he does not share the same views as Congressman Hoyer on a number of issues, but emphasized that dialogue and exchange of opinions are necessary with everyone.

During the meeting, Goganović underlined that the United States is a key partner in the defense system.

“The role of the USA was crucial in the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords, but I share the position of the American administration that the time has come for domestic political actors to take responsibility, for us to make decisions, while the USA remains a reliable partner,” Goganović stressed.

In the discussion, Goganović noted that he comes from Doboj, a city in Republika Srpska with historical ties to the United States.

“In Boljanić near Doboj, one of the largest rescue operations of American pilots during World War II was carried out, as part of Operation Halyard. That is when the foundations of our partnership were laid,” Goganović mentioned.

He added that in the coming period, the Serb people will be a key US partner in this part of Europe, noting that this is also evidenced by the planned presentation of an award to President Milorad Dodik at an upcoming forum of world leaders in the United States.
