BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 25 /SRNA/ – The Serb member of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, has said that the unilateral decisions imposed by Christian Schmidt have never been and will never be verified by domestic institutions, nor will they fraudulently become part of BiH’s legal system.
Reacting to Schmidt’s interview with the British Times, Cvijanović said that the British paper generously gave him space to justify his undemocratic, unlawful, and unilateral actions.
"It seems as if they’re offering a lifeline to a man who has done everything to ensure that BiH fails, trying to shift the blame for his enormous contribution to BiH’s collapse onto someone else", Cvijanović pointed out.
She said it is important to distinguish between Schmidt and his predecessors, who also acted unlawfully but were at least aware of the illegality of their actions.
"They, through various methods, managed to have what they imposed unlawfully later verified by the domestic Parliamentary Assembly, at least creating an illusion of democracy and legality. As for Schmidt’s unilateral imposed decisions – they have never been and will never be verified by domestic institutions, and they will not fraudulently become part of BiH’s legal system", Cvijanović emphasized.
According to her, in this Times article, Christian Schmidt portrays himself as a martyr sent on a “difficult mission” to supposedly make BiH more functional – for a huge salary and at the expense of taxpayers in EU countries, the US, and a few others.
"In reality, he changed laws and imposed solutions that practically destroyed domestic dialogue and reduced internal trust to zero – all without any foundation in international or domestic law. He has been one of the two most obvious instruments used to build other people’s states through experimental methods incompatible with the normal civilized world", Cvijanović added.
She reminded that Schmidt had never received confirmation from the UN Security Council to act as High Representative and, under the Dayton Agreement, had never obtained the authority to change laws or make political or financial decisions on behalf of BiH institutions.
"Yet he changed the Constitution of the Federation of BiH, amended the BiH Election Law and Criminal Code, issued decisions denying funding to political parties, extended the mandates of bodies that were not even lawfully appointed in the first place, and distributed BiH taxpayers’ money", Cvijanović noted.
She also said that Schmidt imposed his own foreign policy beliefs, for example, when he declared before the US presidential election that Donald Trump was not a good solution for Europe.
"He certainly did not speak on behalf of Republika Srpska. And as for why he said such things and who is whose puppet, including himself, that’s a discussion we could have", Cvijanović stressed.
She questioned the very purpose of the interview.
"Is it to prolong his stay in BiH, or merely an attempt by him and his helpers to justify the unjustifiable, or to keep selling us the illusion that we live in a state governed by the rule of law?", Cvijanović stated.
Cvijanović reminded that the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Agreement is approaching.
"It’s time to do some major house cleaning if we don’t want this already shaky structure to completely collapse. As Shakespeare would say: As you like it", Cvijanović said.
