CONDEMNATION OF ATTACK ON ABBOT OF KARNO MONASTERY

SARAJEVO, AUGUST 15 /SRNA/ – The Interreligious Council of BiH has condemned the attack on the abbot of the Karno Monastery, Luka Babić, stating that they are unpleasantly surprised by the increasingly frequent attacks and incidents that bear the character of national and religious intolerance.

The Interreligious Council appealed to all authorities and institutions that should work on investigating and prosecuting this and all such cases to react urgently, as only timely intervention can help significantly reduce the occurrence of such incidents.

“We appeal to families, schools, and other segments of society, especially political parties, to do everything they can to build an atmosphere of trust, understanding, and the creation of conditions for a life worthy of a human being, with respect for the rights of all citizens to live in peace,” the Interreligious Council said in a statement.

They reminded that yesterday there was a verbal attack on the abbot of the Karno Monastery near Srebrenica by three individuals in an intoxicated state, and that the police reacted and, after conducting an investigation, arrested one person.

“The Interreligious Council of BiH is increasingly responding to such events, appealing to the perpetrators of these incidents to finally stop with provocations that can create an atmosphere of distrust among the majority of the faithful and citizens,” the statement added.

In the village of Kragljivoda yesterday morning, a certain Ramiz Krdžić, in an intoxicated state, attacked the abbot of the Karno Monastery near Srebrenica, Luka Babić, and a member of the Srebrenica Police Station.

Krdžić was arrested on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of assault on an official in the performance of official duties, and an alcohol test determined that he had 2.04‰ of alcohol in his blood.
