SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 2 /SRNA/ – The Sarajevo-based company Smartmatic BiH, which was awarded BAM 74.5 million contract, excluding VAT, by the Central Election Commission of BiH /CEC BiH/ to procure equipment for a biometric voter identification and ballot-scanning system, is mentioned in a Central Intelligence Agency /CIA/ document concerning possible manipulation of electronic vote counting, Večernji list reports.
The CIA document, titled "Summary of Selected Intelligence Reports from 2004 to 2020 on Venezuela’s Capabilities to Manipulate Electronic Voting", describes in detail the technical capabilities and intentions of Venezuelan governments to digitally manipulate election results.
The report was declassified in July this year and published on the official White House website as part of a collection of materials concerning vulnerabilities in electronic voting and vote-counting systems.
The White House states that the documents show that the CIA obtained information about a specific plan by the Venezuelan authorities to digitally manipulate the elections held in 2020.
According to the intelligence information, the possibility of creating virtual voting machines capable of mimicking legitimate machines was considered.
Voters in BiH will use equipment supplied by Smartmatic BiH on Sunday, October 4, to vote in the general elections.
