WARSAW, NOVEMBER 8 /SRNA/ - A unit specializing in terrorist offences is investigating the shooting in Krakow, Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek said.

Żurek announced that the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption was in charge of investigating the killing of six people with firearms and the attempted murder of numerous others.

"Under the legal classification applied, the perpetrator acted with the aim of seriously intimidating a large number of people, which makes this a terrorist act," Żurek wrote on X.

He confirmed that the murder of the suspect's father, mother and younger sister is also being investigated, the BBC reports.

"The maximum penalty for both offences is life imprisonment," Żurek said.

Krzysztof Jan Klenčar, governor of Poland's Masovian Voivodeship, said that the people who underwent surgery after being wounded in Krakow had survived.

He said at a press conference that 11 of the 16 injured people were Polish citizens, and that two were police officers whose condition remained serious, although their situation had improved somewhat compared with yesterday. One of the officers sustained three gunshot wounds.

The governor added that the attacker was also in critical condition and had undergone surgery.
