WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 10 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ - Washington has warned its allies that it will seek to abolish the International Criminal Court /ICC/ and called on them to help achieve that goal, Politico reported, citing a document forwarded to delegations of NATO member states. "The United States will systematically dismantle the ICC's capabilities. We strongly demand that you take immediate steps to withdraw from the organization," the document states. US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker called on US allies to withdraw from the Rome Statute, the founding document of the ICC, thereby helping bring about the organization's demise. In February 2025, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the ICC over its actions against Washington and its allies. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in mid-July that, if necessary, the United States would "dismantle the ICC — brick by brick".
