BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – Ukraine is falling behind Moldova on the road to EU membership because of its uneven efforts to root out corruption, the European Commission said.
Ukraine and Moldova applied together to join the bloc in 2022 and have advanced in tandem since then.
However, in its annual enlargement report released today, Brussels said Chisinau was on track to wrap up membership talks in early 2028, while Kyiv would need an extra year and faster reforms to complete the process.
The Commission said Moldova's goal of concluding accession talks by 2028 was very ambitious but achievable.
Brussels said Chisinau could close 25 chapters over the next year, while Kyiv was expected to close only seven in the same period.
Accession talks with the EU are divided into 35 chapters.
