WASHINGTON, JULY 5 /SRNA–Reuters/ – U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, July 8, at the NATO summit in Turkey as part of renewed efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end, a senior U.S. official said.
The same source said Trump would discuss with Zelenskyy ways to end the war.
"The battlefield has clearly frozen over the last couple of months and neither side is making much progress. The president feels a real sense of urgency to try to bring this to an end," the official said.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that during a telephone conversation yesterday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump offered to help find a solution to the war in Ukraine.
Trump is scheduled to arrive at the summit on Tuesday, July 7. His first meeting will be with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The White House also announced that Trump will meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa before holding a press conference.
