PARIS, JUNE 25 /SRNA/ - A three-year-old boy has died in France during a heatwave after entering a parked car and becoming trapped because the vehicle's child safety lock was engaged.
The prosecutor's office said the parents found the child unconscious in the vehicle parked in front of the family home, Le Figaro reported.
Despite attempts by the parents and emergency services to resuscitate him, the boy died.
The investigation found that the father was working in an outbuilding in the yard, while the mother was resting with another child. The boy had slipped out of their supervision, entered the unlocked car, and became trapped inside.
The tragedy occurred in Saint-Gratien, in the French department of Val-d'Oise, French officials said today.
The mother was hospitalized following the tragedy due to shock, and the prosecutor's office has opened an investigation on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.
