THE SITUATION REGARDING EBOLA IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING

PARIS, MAY 30 /SRNA/ - The situation regarding the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is extremely concerning, said the Deputy Director of Operations at "Doctors Without Borders," Alain Gonzales.

Gonzales warned that the speed of Ebola's spread is unprecedented, and those on the ground cannot keep up with it.

"Two weeks after the declaration of the Ebola epidemic in the Ituri province, the situation is deeply alarming and represents a legitimate source of concern for communities and frontline health workers," Gonzales stated in a press release.

New suspected cases of Ebola are being identified daily, but the speed of testing prevents timely diagnosis.

"Testing capacity must be increased immediately in order to bring the situation under at least partial control," warned Gonzales during the visit of the Director-General of the World Health Organization /WHO/, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to Ituri.

The WHO has declared the Ebola epidemic in Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern.

More than 900 suspected cases have been reported in Congo, including 223 suspected deaths. The previous Ebola epidemic in the country ended in October 2025.
