"TELEGRAM" BLOCKED MORE THAN 100,000 GROUPS AND CHANNELS IN A SINGLE DAY

MOSCOW, AUGUST 11 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - The Russian social network "Telegram" blocked more than 100,000 groups and channels yesterday, marking the first time this number has exceeded the previous record set on August 5, according to the service's statistical data.

Specifically, "Telegram" blocked 101,205 groups and channels, which is the first time since August 5 that the number of blocked groups and channels has exceeded 100,000.

Since the beginning of the month, the service has blocked 834,113 groups and channels, including 4,608 communities linked to terrorism.

The total number of blocked groups and channels since the beginning of 2026 has reached 22,592,744, including 158,750 communities linked to terrorism, the data shows.

Since 2015, content moderation has included user reports and proactive monitoring based on machine learning, and in early 2024, it was supplemented with artificial intelligence-based moderation tools, "Telegram" stated.
