TEL AVIV, OCTOBER 18 /SRNA/ - The Israeli Foreign Ministry has called on the Norwegian government to stop the sale of sacred Jewish Torah scrolls stolen and desecrated by the Nazis, as well as the removal of incentives for visits to concentration camps.
"Auctioning sacred texts looted by the Nazis — yes; visits to death camps — no," the ministry wrote on X.
The ministry clarified that the item in question was a Torah scroll desecrated and destroyed by SS members, who used it as wrapping paper. The scroll has since emerged as a historical artifact offered for sale at the Valkyrie auction house in Oslo.
The ministry also appealed to the Norwegian government not to proceed with its plan to withdraw financial support for visits by Norwegian school and university students to death camps, where Jews and other anti-fascists were brutally murdered and tortured.
"The Israeli government expects the Norwegian government to put an immediate stop to this moral disgrace," the ministry added.
