RUTTE: ALLIANCE IS GOING THROUGH ITS MOST SIGNFICANT TRANSORMATION TO DATE

BRUSSELS, JUNE 18 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ - NATO is undergoing possibly its largest transformation yet, and the United States will review its forces in Europe in consultation with NATO allies, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said.

"It is entirely acceptable for the United States to consider its role here in terms of forces, whether it needs to make changes or not. This will take months. They will do it in close consultation with allies, so I think it will be a structural process over the next six months," Rutte told reporters after a meeting of defense ministers of NATO member states in Brussels.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously announced a six-month review of the deployment of American troops and bases in Europe.

The review will follow after some European allies denied the U.S. military access to bases and airspace for offensive operations against Iran.
