RECORD NUMBER OF DEATHS RELATED TO HEAT WAVE

MADRID, AUGUST 31 /SRNA/ - Spain has recorded a record number of deaths related to extreme heat this summer, according to data from the mortality monitoring system.

The report states that 5,232 people have died in Spain this summer due to extreme heat. In August alone, 2,147 people died, TASS reported.

Spanish meteorologists announced earlier that the first half of this year was the hottest in Spain in the last 65 years. June of this year was the second hottest on record, and July was the hottest and driest since records began in 1961.
