NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 10 /SRNA/RIA Novosti/ — Princess Diana's iconic black evening dress, famously known as the "revenge dress" will be auctioned in New York for the first time in 29 years, with Sotheby's estimating its value at between $150,000 and $300,000.

"Thirty years after the Princess of Wales offered the dress at auction in 1997 to benefit organizations supporting people affected by cancer and HIV, it will return to auction on December 9 at Sotheby's New York," the auction house posted on X.

The dress will also be exhibited in the UK during London Fashion Week, from September 18 to 24, Sotheby's said.

Princess Diana wore the short black silk dress on June 29, 1994. It was designed by Greek designer Christina Stambolian. That same day, her husband, then-Prince Charles and now King Charles III, publicly acknowledged that he had been unfaithful to Diana with his then-partner, Camilla Parker Bowles, now Queen Camilla.

The controversial dress attracted widespread attention at the time because it did not conform to the royal family's traditional dress code.
