POLICE SHOOT WOMAN WHO STABBED TWO PEOPLE IN TIMES SQUARE

NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 1 /SRNA/ - A woman attacked two people with a knife in Times Square in New York and then lunged at police officers, who shot and killed her, the New York Police Department said today.

Local police said the attacker pulled two knives from a shopping bag and randomly stabbed a 68-year-old man in the abdomen, followed by a 32-year-old woman, also in the abdomen, AP reported.

The injured woman died in hospital, while the man is in stable condition.

The attack occurred in one of the city’s most visited and heavily secured locations, near a New York Police Department precinct.

Footage posted on social media shows a woman holding two kitchen knives moving towards police officers, after which several officers opened fire.

Before she moved to attack the police, one officer tried to incapacitate her with a Taser, but was unsuccessful.

According to information available so far, police do not believe the attack was terrorism-related and are investigating the woman’s mental state.
