PESKOV: NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN LITHUANIA WOULD ENDANGER ITS SECURITY

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 13 /SRNA-RIA Novosti/ – Lithuania believes that nuclear weapons would guarantee its security, but they would instead pose a serious threat to the country, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

Lithuanian broadcaster LRT reported on Thursday, citing Lithuanian Parliament Speaker Juozas Olekas, that the government plans to repeal early next year a constitutional provision banning weapons of mass destruction on the country's territory.

"Lithuania believes this would be a guarantee of its security, but the opposite would be true - it would create a major threat to the country. They simply do not understand this. It would become a target for our nuclear weapons," Peskov said.

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairperson Dmitry Medvedev previously said that Lithuania would disappear from the world map in the event of a military conflict with Russia.
