PAKS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT BACK AT FULL CAPACITY

BUDAPEST, AUGUST 26 /SRNA/ - Hungary’s Paks Nuclear Power Plant is back at full capacity after earlier reducing electricity production due to falling water levels in the Danube.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar said the nuclear power plant had reached its maximum output, with all four reactors and all eight turbines operating flawlessly.

“Thank you to all the energy and water experts for their hard work over the past few weeks,” Magyar wrote on Facebook.

Three of the plant’s units had previously been shut down due to falling water levels in the Danube, which is used to cool various systems at the facility.

A weir has been built in the riverbed near the plant to raise the river level. Hungarian experts used thousands of tonnes of crushed rock for the project.

The Paks Nuclear Power Plant, located on the banks of the Danube 100 kilometres south of Budapest, accounts for 45% of Hungary’s electricity generation and 36% of its electricity consumption.
