OTTAWA CANCELS JOINT BRIDGE OPENING CELEBRATION WITH THE U.S.

OTTAWA, JULY 22 /SRNA/ - Canada has cancelled a planned joint ceremony with the United States to mark the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, citing trade threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump.

"In light of the trade measures threatened by the United States earlier this week, it would be inappropriate to proceed with a joint celebration between our two countries," said Jenna Ghassabeh, spokesperson for Canada's Minister of Infrastructure.

The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic on July 27, while the ribbon-cutting ceremony had been planned for July 24, with U.S. and Canadian officials expected to attend.
