ORBÁN WELCOMES AfD VICTORY

BUDAPEST, SEPTEMBER 7 /SRNA/ - Former Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán welcomed the victory of the Alternative for Germany /AfD/ in the Saxony-Anhalt elections, noting that it was a huge night for Germany and Europe.

"Congratulations to Alice Weidel, Ulrich Siegmund and the entire AfD on their landslide victory in Saxony-Anhalt! Buckle up, this is just the beginning!" Orbán wrote on X.

Orbán was in power in Hungary for 16 years, prior to defeat from now Prime Minister Peter Magyar in parliamentary elections on April 12.

Orbán maintained ties with right-wing conservatives and populists around the world, including the AfD, and one of the party's leaders, Alice Weidel, visited him in Budapest several times while he was a prime minister.
