STOCKHOLM, JUNE 10 /SRNA/ - Northern European countries are considering setting up centers to deport refugees outside the European Union, Swedish Migration Minister Johan Forssell said.

"One idea involves using return centers located outside the EU for a specific nationality," Forssell said.

He stressed that no decisions have yet been made on whose citizens this would affect, but that European countries are facing the same problems when it comes to certain countries, such as Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia.

Forssell added that he would support a pilot project for return centers run by the European Commission, but that EU leadership has reportedly expressed little interest in the issue.

Politico reports that Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria and Greece are regularly discussing the establishment of return centers. The Nordic countries are also considering a pilot project in this regard.
