NINE PEOPLE DEAD IN HOTEL FIRE

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 19 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - At least nine people died in a fire that broke out in the Shikhali Hotel in the Indian city of Kolkata, the Hindu newspaper reported, citing local police.

The report states that 15 people were rescued and six were injured.

According to preliminary reports from the police, all the dead were Bangladeshi citizens.

Firefighters have since managed to control the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
