MOSCOW REPORTS 3.1 MILLION VOTERS

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 19 /SRNA-RIA Novosti/ – A total of 3.1 million Moscow residents voted over two days in elections to the State Duma, with 400,000 using paper ballots, Deputy Chairperson of the Moscow City Election Commission Dmitry Reut said.

Alexei Peskov, executive director of the Independent Association for Public Election Monitoring, said there had been no serious or major violations that could affect the results.

Peskov said several voting irregularities had been reported in the regions, but that the necessary measures had been taken immediately to address them.

Elections to the lower house of the Russian parliament, together with regional elections, are being held across the country from September 18 to 20.

A total of 20,700 elected seats and posts are expected to be filled.
