KINSHASA, AUGUST 10 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ – The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has exceeded 4,200, with 1,916 people having died, the Congolese Ministry of Health said.
The outbreak has spread to 53 districts in five provinces, while Ituri remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for 86.5 percent of all cases.
World Health Organisation Regional Director Mohamed Janabi said earlier today that the epidemiological situation remains extremely serious and called for intensified efforts to inform the population about the need to seek medical care promptly.
He pointed out that between 60 and 70 percent of the victims of the outbreak died at home, which is why efforts to educate the population about the importance of seeking timely medical assistance must continue.
