MORE THAN 300,000 PUBLIC-SECTOR WORKERS ON STRIKE

PARIS, SEPTEMBER 29 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ — More than 300,000 people took part in a public-sector strike across France, while 70,000 people joined demonstrations in Paris, BFMTV reported, citing figures from France’s largest trade union, CGT.

Around 30,000 people joined demonstrations in Marseille, 11,000 in Toulouse, 10,000 each in Lille and Bordeaux, and 8,000 each in Lyon and Orléans, reads the report.

Many secondary schools across France, including in Paris, Nice and Marseille, are also holding actions calling for reductions in overcrowded classrooms and teaching workloads, as well as an increase in the number of teachers.

The actions have been accompanied by vandalism, with students blocking entrances to educational institutions. In Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris, students set fire to the entrance of a secondary school.
