KELHEIM, JULY 15 /SRNA/ - The 60-year-old man and his wife, whom he killed with a machete in the German town of Kelheim, are Croatian citizens.
The Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office told Fokus that the couple were Croatian nationals who had been married since 1991, adding that no further information could be disclosed at this stage of the investigation.
German media reported that the man attacked the 58-year-old woman last night near the main square and that the woman died at the scene.
According to the information available so far, the crime was preceded by an argument.
Witnesses overpowered and restrained the man until the police arrived and subsequently arrested him.
One of the eyewitnesses, who was standing just a few metres from the scene of the attack, said that the attacker stabbed the woman in the neck with a machete.
Kelheim resident Vladimir Milovac said that he had known the suspect for many years and the victim for several months.
"The woman appeared very exhausted and stressed, while the man was sometimes aggressive and threatened her," Milovac said.
