GENEVA, JUNE 5 /SRNA/ - The International Atomic Energy Agency /IAEA/ said that Russia and Ukraine made an agreement on the temporary local ceasefire, the sixth since the end of the last year, in order to carry out repairs on the power line that supplies power to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant /NPP/.

"A localized ceasefire brokered by the IAEA took effect on the frontline near the Zaporizhzhya NPP today, paving the way for crucial power line repairs to prevent the threat of a nuclear accident," the IAEA said on X.

During the next few days, technicians from the both sides will start repairing the war damage on the Dniprovska power line following extensive de-mining of the area, the IAEA said.

According the the IAEA, the power line was disconnected more than two months ago, leaving Europe's largest NPP entirely reliant on a single 330 kV line for the electricity it needs to cool its six shutdown reactors.

In recent weeks, the Zaporizhzhya NPP has several times lost access also to this line, forcing it to start operating its emergency diesel generators as a last resort.
