BIJELJINA, JUNE 20 /SRNA/ – American tennis player Maureen Connolly, AKA Little Mo, the first tennis player in history to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single calendar year, died on June 21, 1969.
At not yet 19 years of age, she became the first woman to capture all four Grand Slam titles in one year.
To this day, that achievement has been matched only by Margaret Court and Steffi Graf. In the men's game, no player has accomplished the feat in the same manner.
Little Mo’s career came to an unexpectedly early end in 1954 when she suffered a serious leg injury while horseback riding.
She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1968.
Tennis experts regard Maureen Connolly as one of the greatest female tennis players of all time.
