LE PEN: KYIV'S EU ENTRY WOULD MEAN HARAKIRI FOR BRUSSELS

PARIS, OCTOBER 14 /SRNA/ - Ukraine's accession to the European Union would amount to harakiri for Brussels and would result in a loss of sovereignty and enormous economic costs for France, Marine Le Pen, the National Rally candidate in next year's French presidential election, said.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Le Pen cast doubt on whether Paris would continue to support European funding for Ukraine if she wins the election.

"We have already given them a €90 billion loan. France's share is €18 billion. That is really a lot," Le Pen said.

She added that if elected French president, she would seek to block adoption of the EU's new seven-year budget, which includes a Ukraine funding instrument worth up to €100 billion, by withholding 50 per cent of France's contribution, TASS reported.

The first round of France's presidential election is scheduled for April next year, with a possible runoff in May.
