LAVROV: ICC IS A QUASI-JUDICIAL BODY

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - The International Criminal Court /ICC/ in The Hague is a quasi-judicial body that has little in common with justice, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"The International Criminal Court is a body that we should not even bother trying to criticize in detail. Everyone knows that it is fully controlled by Western sponsors," Lavrov said at a round table on Ukraine.

He stressed that some Western countries, including the United States, do not support the work of the Court, which carries out political orders in violation of international law and its own statute.

Lavrov added that there is no need for an alternative to the ICC, nor is the Court itself needed, as international criminal tribunals have never managed to help resolve conflicts or contribute to the reconciliation process after wars.
