LARGEST SOLAR POWER PLANT IN RUSSIA COMMISSIONED

MOSCOW, AUGUST 6 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - The Russian solar energy company "Unigreen Energy" announced that it has commissioned the largest solar power plant in Russia, with a capacity of 120 megawatts, in the Zabaykalsky Krai in the Far East.

"The total investment amounted to 129 million dollars. The power plant is located in the Zabaykalsky Krai, near the settlement of Abagaytuy, not far from the border with China," the company stated in a press release.

It was added that the commissioning of this facility increases the total capacity of solar electricity generation in the region to 280 megawatts, which accounts for 15 percent of the region's overall production capacity.

The company noted that the power plant is equipped with more than 250,000 Russian-made solar panels and a sun-tracking system, which allows for approximately a 25 percent increase in electricity production compared to plants with fixed panels.

"Zabaykalsky Krai is one of the leading regions in terms of solar radiation, which is higher than in Italy, and it has more sunny days than Sochi. It is expected that the power plant will annually produce around 223.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity," the statement reads.
