BERLIN, OCTOBER 19 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - Confirmation of Ukraine’s involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines would mean that Kyiv had committed a terrorist act against civilian infrastructure, knowingly accepting the risk of harming other countries in pursuit of its objectives, Bundestag member of the opposition Alternative for Germany /AfD/ party Steffen Kotre said.
"Ukraine viewed the Nord Stream pipelines as a target whose destruction would harm Russia. At the same time, it knowingly accepted the possibility of causing damage to other countries. It attacked civilian infrastructure and thereby committed a terrorist act," Kotre said.
Ukrainian national Serhii Kuznietsov was arrested in Italy in August 2025 on suspicion of coordinating the bombing of the pipelines and was subsequently extradited to Germany.
In June, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office indicted him, accusing him of involvement in coordinating a terrorist attack on the Nord Stream pipelines and aiding and abetting a war crime. The first hearing in the proceedings against Kuznietsov was held on October 14.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Berlin would take the outcome of the court proceedings concerning the Nord Stream sabotage into account when making political decisions regarding Ukraine.
