IOC GREENLIGHTS ROWING EVENTS ON CROCODILE-INFESTED RIVER AT 2032 OLYMPICS

SYDNEY, SEPTEMBER 17 /SRNA/ - Rowing and canoe sprint competitions at the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Australia will be held on the Fitzroy River, which is home to a large population of crocodiles, News Australia television reported.

According to the Australian broadcaster, the International Olympic Committee /IOC/ has approved the river, more precisely a section near the city of Rockhampton in Queensland, as the venue for the competitions.

It was previously reported that the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority /GIICA/, which is responsible for modernising and constructing sports facilities for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane, had said that the Fitzroy River was suitable for canoe and kayak competitions.

GIICA's experts measured all the necessary parameters and assessed that they technically meet the requirements of the international governing body World Rowing.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli also promised that the regional authorities would take measures to eliminate the dangers associated with the presence of crocodiles.

The 2032 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Brisbane, Australia, from July 23 to August 8, while the Paralympic Games will follow from August 24 to September 5 of the same year.
