HUNTER KILLS WOMAN AFTER MISTAKING HER FOR A DEER

DOVER, SEPTEMBER 21 /SRNA/ - A 74-year-old man has been arrested in the US state of Delaware on suspicion of fatally shooting a woman while hunting, mistaking her for a deer.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigation, the woman was walking through a field with a man and two children on Friday evening, September 18, while the suspected hunter, Walter Moorhead, was hunting from a blind.

Believing he had spotted a deer, he fired his rifle and struck a 39-year-old woman from Georgetown, Delaware, US media reported.

Police officers who arrived at the scene provided first aid to the woman, but she later died in hospital.

Investigators detained Moorhead after determining that he had fired the shot. He was brought before a court and subsequently released on $43,000 cash bail.

The hunter, Walter Moorhead, of Salisbury, Maryland, is charged with manslaughter, aggravated reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Police are continuing their investigation.
