LONDON, SEPTEMBER 8 /SRNA-Reuters/ - Several hundred flights from the UK’s largest airports were cancelled today due to technical problems at air traffic control company NATS.
“We have identified a problem with our flight-processing system. Our engineers are working urgently to restore normal operations. Flights are still departing, and the airspace remains open, but it will take some time for the system to recover,” NATS said in a statement.
London’s Heathrow Airport, the UK’s largest airport, said it was working with NATS to resolve the problem.
According to data from FlightAware, around 100 flights were cancelled at Heathrow, while 367 flights were delayed. Around 250 delays were recorded at Gatwick Airport.
Problems were also reported in Edinburgh, Scotland, and in Dublin, Ireland.
