BERLIN, NOVEMBER 8 /SRNA/ - Young people are increasingly denying facts about the Holocaust or downplaying its horrors, said Veronika Nam, head of the Anne Frank Centre in Berlin.

Ahead of the 88th anniversary of the November pogroms in Germany, Nam told the KNA news agency that the downplaying or denial of the Holocaust was particularly evident in comments on social media posts related to the Centre.

She added that visitors to the Centre's travelling exhibitions sometimes ask whether any of it is actually true.

She attributed the rise in such views to a lack of knowledge rather than young people's intentions, saying they were not as well informed about the subject in schools as they had been 15 years ago.

"There has been a generational change among teachers. For many older teachers, this was a subject close to their hearts and was discussed in many different places and across various school subjects. That is different today," she said.

The Anne Frank Centre in Berlin is a partner organisation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.

Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who went into hiding in a house during the German occupation of the Netherlands from 1940 to 1945. She wrote a famous diary in which she described her experiences and feelings during the war. The diary was published after her death.

She was discovered and deported by the Nazis and died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in early 1945.

The November pogroms, during which Jews, Jewish property, and institutions were attacked, took place on November 9 and 10, 1938, throughout the German Reich, instigated by the Nazi regime.
