WASHINGTON, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – China Media Group /CMG/ and the Chinese Embassy in the United States organised the Global Dialogue on China's Governance and Global Development in Washington, following the conclusion of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China /CPC/.

The event, held on Monday, November 2, provided a platform for exchanging views on China`s experience in state governance, its contribution to global development and opportunities for international cooperation. The importance of dialogue and mutual learning amid increasingly pronounced global challenges was also highlighted.

"To understand China today, it is essential to understand the Communist Party of China /CPC/," Shen Haixiong, President of China Media Group /CMG/, said in a video address.

Shen noted that the plenary session had sent a clear message that the CPC would continue to strengthen its own capacity by applying higher standards and more concrete measures, turning successful Party governance into successful state governance.

He added that China Media Group would continue to explain the key factors behind the CPC`s success to international audiences and present China`s experience in state governance.

Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng said the session had taken place at a significant moment, as the CPC marks the 105th anniversary of its founding and China enters a crucial stage of national rejuvenation.

"China`s success depends on our Party, which is why we must ensure the full and consistent implementation of strict Party self-governance. A stronger CPC means a better China, which in turn contributes to a better world," Xie said.

He called on American friends from various sectors of society to gain a better understanding of China's governance through the perspective of Party building.

Renowned American China expert Robert Lawrence Kuhn said the guidelines of the Fifth Plenary Session were clear: strengthening political discipline, supervision of officials and the combating corruption. He stressed that strict Party governance was essential to China's continued development.

He also pointed to the CPC's long-term development goals, policy continuity and enduring commitment to improving people's living standards as important factors in China`s development.

American educator Ronald Salkowski said that, despite their different political systems and development paths, China and the United States both seek to advance national development and improve the lives of their citizens.

"If we focus on what we have in common rather than our differences, the world will become a better place, a place of peace," Salkowski emphasized.

As an example of how people-to-people ties can overcome differences, Salkowski cited his friendship with Jin Yuzhen, a Chinese pioneer in the fight against desertification.

During a panel discussion, William Jones, former White House correspondent for Executive Intelligence Review magazine, and young representatives from American University and Tsinghua University discussed the opportunities China's modernization offers the world, as well as China's progress in areas such as green energy.

One American University student expressed hope that more young Americans would have the opportunity to visit China, experience the country firsthand and contribute to improving China-US relations.
