GINSBURG: SEVERAL TYPES OF CANCER COULD BE DEFEATED WITHIN NEXT THREE TO SIX YEARS

BELGRADE, AUGUST 31 /SRNA/ - Four types of cancer could be defeated within the next three to six years thanks to new immuno-oncology therapy, said Alexander Gintsburg, scientific director of Russia's Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Gintsburg said the cancers in question are melanoma, small-cell lung cancer, bladder cancer and colorectal cancer.

"With a certain degree of confidence, we can say that within three to six years we should achieve such a result," Gintsburg told Sputnik.

He previously spoke about plans to develop three new cancer vaccines in Russia.

Gintsburg said that the first five patients received a Russian vaccine against colorectal cancer in May.

The treatment is individually tailored based on each patient's genetic material.

Following a decision by the Russian Government, several new advanced cancer treatment methods are now available under the mandatory health insurance system.
