DUBLIN, AUGUST 17 /SRNA/ - Five teenagers were killed in a head-on collision on a motorway in Ireland, and four other people were seriously injured, police said.
Irish police had earlier received a report that a vehicle was travelling in the wrong direction on the motorway. Shortly afterwards, it collided head-on with another car, Sky News reported.
The bodies of five teenagers, all of whom were in the same vehicle, were found at the scene of the accident.
The other vehicle was carrying three women, two in their thirties and one in her twenties, as well as a male child. All four were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
An Irish police representative described the crash as “horrific.”
He also warned that there have been cases of individuals deliberately driving on the wrong side of the motorway to attract attention and collect likes on social media.
Police have not yet said whether such behaviour was linked to this crash.
