MOSCOW, AUGUST 18 /SRNA/ – Surgeons at Moscow’s Savelyev Hospital have performed Russia’s first hip replacement surgery using the autonomous Cuvis Joint robotic system, Moscow Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasia Rakova told the press.

"The surgical robot did not replace the surgeon, but acted as a high-precision assistant. Our specialists successfully performed the procedures on two patients, who are now recovering and are already able to walk independently," Rakova said.

She said the surgeons implanted the prostheses with maximum precision, tailoring the procedure to each patient’s individual anatomy.

According to her, doctors used computed tomography /CT/ scans to create three-dimensional models of the patients’ joints and prepare individualized surgical plans.

"Surgeons plan to perform around 1,000 complex joint replacement surgeries in Moscow by the end of this year with the assistance of various surgical robots," Rakova added.
