FIREWORKS BLAST KILLS NINE

MEXICO CITY, SEPTEMBER 6 /SRNA-RIA Novosti/ — Nine people died and 24 were injured in a fireworks explosion in Mexico, local media reported.

The incident occurred in the municipality of Temascalcingo in northwestern Mexico, the Jornada newspaper reported.

The fireworks had been stored in a room next to a local church, according to the report.

The explosion caused a concrete slab to collapse onto believers, killing eight people, the newspaper reported. One of those injured later died in hospital.
